Why I Write

I am writing this blog to create a more professional web prescience for myself.  I had another blog, but was disappointed in how it was turning out, especially in comparison to my roommate’s.    And so this blog is a place for me to try to accomplish the following:

1. Post my thoughts about technology and how it affects current events.

2. Post my projects relating to my major, Information Management and Technology

3. Play around with a popular Open Source application (WordPress)

4. Establish a respectable web presence for myself.

Why “TechRanger” and “RangerOfFortune”?

RoF came first, and TR is a shorter variation.  I liked the idea of being a “tech ranger,” a guide who knows the environment and can help you get through.  It kind of describes my field of study, and I’d like it to describe me as a person.

Also, I’m a huge nerd.  Ranger is my favorite class in DnD.  I once created a Ranger/Rogue that I liked and kinda went with it.  Ranger + Soldier of Fortune = Ranger Of Fortune.  I think it’s also a Whitesnake song or something.

Why do you sign all of your posts?

Just because we’re digital doesn’t mean we can’t be formal.  I work hard on my posts (sometimes) and want to claim my work.  Also, I think “A. Scott Mederos” sounds pretty fancy.

What’s that picture?

The picture in my header is a representation of the network connections that make up the internets.  I got the picture from Wikipedia, but first saw it elsewhere.

You sound like a great guy who knows what he’s doing!  Can I hire you?

Why thank you! And yes, you can hire me!  I am finishing up my Bachelor’s Degree in Information Management and Technology at Syracuse University (expected graduation May 2011).  I am currently looking for jobs in New York, Atlanta, Florida and Iowa.
